Paul Gascoigne

Paul John Gascoigne, nicknamed Filch, is a coach and former soccer player. He played for the English national team, Lazio and several professional clubs in the top English and Scottish leagues. An offensive midfielder gifted with excellent dribbling, he is considered one of the most talented soccer players of his generation. Gazza was born in Gateshead, England, in May 1967 and began his football career in the youth sector of Newcastle. He finally landed in the first team when he was only 18 years old: it was 1985 when along with the FA Youth Cup he also took home his first double. He played for Newcastle for 3 seasons, during which he collected 104 appearances and 25 goals. He reached the pinnacle of his career a little later in Tottenham Hotspur by scoring a record 19 goals in the season, including as many as four in the historic game against Hartlepool United. In February 1992 Gazza was chosen by Lazio's new owner, Sergio Cragnotti, to wear the biancoceleste jersey, becoming at the age of 25 a true legend in Italy as well. After 47 appearances and 6 goals, he finished the 1995 season and flew to Scotland, landing with the Rangers, with whom he won two championships, a Scottish League Cup and a Scottish Cup. In the late 1990s and early 2000s he played for various English teams, including Middlesbrough, Everton, and Burnley. His soccer career officially ends in North America, with Boston United, in 2004.
